Farscape (1999–2003) & The Peacekeeper Wars

Scorpius

Score: 20 | Tier: A | "Foresight and preparation."

Tier: A — Elite

Scorpius scrapes into A-tier by the skin of his cooling rods — and that's a compliment. He's one of the most terrifyingly competent villains in sci-fi, held back only by the fundamental law of television: the hero must survive. His 20 violations are almost entirely the same sin repeated (Crichton keeps escaping), and he compensates with a level of preparation, patience, and adaptability that most villains can only dream of. He's the kind of villain who would write the Evil Overlord List, then follow most of it.

Key Findings

  • Thermal vision is a superpower for villainy. Scorpius can literally see lies. This single biological trait eliminates entire categories of security failures — betrayal detection, interrogation reliability, and trust verification are all solved problems for him.
  • The neural chip was brilliant. Implanting a backup copy of himself in Crichton's brain as a contingency plan is the kind of forward thinking the Evil Overlord List was written to encourage. It's a shame it eventually became its own problem.
  • He survives the series. Not just alive — smiling. He gets what he wanted (the wormhole weapon is built), sees its horror firsthand, and lives to watch the peace treaty. That's a better outcome than 90% of villains.
  • His violations are almost all the same one. "Crichton escaped" accounts for roughly half his score. If you normalize for the fact that he's the antagonist of a TV series that ran for four seasons, his actual competence is near-flawless.
  • The cooling suit is his only real vulnerability. A biological weakness he's managed ingeniously, but it's still a single point of failure that could be exploited.

Top Violations

RuleViolation
E1The hero is still alive. Crichton survives the entire series and gets the girl.
E3Had Crichton in the Aurora Chair multiple times. Did not kill him. Extracted information instead.
SP13Crichton escaped from Gammak Base, from the Command Carrier, and from Scorpius's custody repeatedly.
T3The cooling rods in his head are a glaring weak point. Remove them, and his own biology kills him.
T6The neural chip — his masterstroke — became Harvey, an independent entity that eventually worked against his interests.

Fate

Survived. Won (sort of). Scorpius instigates the war between Peacekeepers and Scarrans in The Peacekeeper Wars, forcing Crichton to finally unlock the wormhole weapon. When he sees the weapon's actual destructive power, he's genuinely horrified — calling it "madness" — showing he understood the stakes all along. The weapon forces a peace treaty, and Scorpius is last seen on Moya, smiling, as the Scarrans and Peacekeepers sign. He doesn't get to use the wormhole knowledge himself, but he achieves his goal: the Scarran threat is neutralized. He walks away alive, free, and with his intellect intact. That's an A-tier ending.
